Roadside Diners
In Roadside Diners Hodgson has photographed what has become an essential part of our industrial heritage. Situated along our main arterial road routes, along which the vast majority of our factory manufactured products are transported, these vital pit stop cafes provide both a welcome break and refreshments for many a road-weary long-distance truck driver. Many other road users also frequent these cafes, seeking a quick bite to eat together with a strong cup of tea or coffee, or something more substantial such as burgers and chips! From the unusual to the ordinary, the large and small, the colourful and drab, these enterprising business people are fulfilling a vital role by fuelling the drivers as they move countless tons of goods from factory to factory, every day of the week. Here we are treated to a visual extravaganza of cafes where Hodgson has created art from the seemingly mundane.
